4/11/15: Pittsburgh Penguins 2 Buffalo Sabres 0

1st Penguins Goal (Sutter), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    B. Comeau – skates past Ristolainen to get to a dump-in in the left corner of the Sabres zone, carries the puck through the corner and up the left-side boards, cuts to the top of the zone and moves across the zone, skates the puck high to the right-side boards, then dumps the puck in along the right-side boards for Sutter down low
    B. Sutter – goes behind the net to get the puck from Comeau, cuts away from the net and away from Ristolainen to take the puck on his backhand towards the slot, glides past Bennett and Meszaros in front into the slot, and backhands the puck past Lindback’s blocker
    B. Bennett – goes to the crease when Sutter gets the puck behind the net, which forces Meszaros to follow him to the crease so that he can’t step up on Sutter in the slot
  • Buffalo Faults
    R. Ristolainen – loses Comeau/doesn’t slow him down on the original dump-in, then later loses his coverage of Sutter getting the puck behind the net and going to the slot as Sutter

2nd Penguins Goal (Sutter), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    B. Sutter – gets to a loose puck rolling through the left corner of the Sabres zone after an errant pass by Strachan, then moves it up the boards (cont.), taps Winnik’s pass into the empty net as Lindback has no chance of getting across the crease for the puck
    P. Hornqvist – lifts the stick of Grigorenko along the left-side boards so he can’t play Sutter’s pass, then takes the puck, skates it to the right point, and quickly turns to throw the puck towards the slot for Winnik
    D. Winnik – catches the puck at chest-level, drops it down to his stick at the inside of the right faceoff circle, holds the puck and fakes a shot in a 1-on-1 situation against Lindback, then passes the puck to Sutter going to the back side of the net
  • Buffalo Faults
    T. Strachan – gets the puck in the right corner of the Sabres zone and makes a bad pass behind the net for Bogosian, so the puck ends up rolling to the left corner where Sutter gets it for a turnover, then gets caught drifting and following the puck so he leaves Winnik completely alone in the slot
    B. Gionta – follows Sutter to the crease/net, but glides behind him instead of skating to him, so he’s unable to lift Sutter’s stick or tie him up in time to prevent the tap-in goal
