1st Penguins Goal (Comeau), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    K. Letang – skates into the corner of the Penguins zone to join a battle for the puck between Cole and Pietrangelo, then pokes the puck up the boards to Spaling along the boards
    N. Spaling – chips the puck up the left-side boards to Winnik at center ice
    D. Winnik – gets the puck at the red line and pushes it into the offensive zone as he also slips the coverage of Michalek at center ice, which leads to a 2-on-1 with Comeau, then he carries the puck into the left faceoff circle, keeps control of it as Lindbohm tries to poke it away from him, starts to fall as he gets to the bottom of the left faceoff circle, and makes a center pass as he’s falling to Comeau skating by himself through the slot
    B. Comeau – fires Winnik’s pass through Allen’s five-hole into the net
  • St. Louis Faults
    Z. Michalek – tries to step up on Winnik along the boards at center ice and loses him, leaving a 2-on-1 break going the other way against Lindbohm

2nd Penguins Goal (Downie), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    N. Spaling – steps up from the blue line and intercepts a bad pass from Bouwmeester above the right faceoff circle in the Blues zone, then passes the puck to Downie by himself on top of the crease
    S. Downie – takes the puck at the top of the crease with his back to Allen, turns himself to the right of the crease and pulls his puck to his forehand so he’s facing Allen, then lifts the puck over Allen’s left pad so it hits of of the bottom of his glove off of the back of his right pad, and bounces into the net
  • St. Louis Faults
    J. Bouwmeester – tries to make a pass up to Porter along the left-side boards, but his pass is too far off of the boards and goes directly to Spaling where Porter can’t reach it
    Z. Michalek – leaves the crease area early with Downie around the net as Bouwmeester makes the pass that goes to Spaling, which leaves Downie all by himself in front of Allen with time and space

1st Blues Goal (Bortuzzo), Even

  • St. Louis Contributions
    R. Bortuzzo – one-times the loose puck that slides out to him above the right faceoff circle and puts the puck just inside the left post past Fleury’s blocker
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    M. Fleury – stops a shot by Backes and has the puck under him, but panics thinking that it snuck through, so he twists to reach behind him and uncovers the puck, knocking it out to the front of the crease, where a gigantic scramble ensues as the puck pinballs off of sticks and skates
    S. Downie – is lying on the ice near the crease when Lapierre gets the puck on his backhand at the inside lower corner of the right faceoff circle and Downie swings his stick towards the puck, which knocks it off of Lapierre’s stick back to Bortuzzo above the right faceoff circle

2nd Blues Goal (Goc), Even

  • St. Louis Contributions
    R. Reaves – gets in front of Lapierre along the left-side boards and stops a puck rolling up the boards in the Penguins zone, then plays the puck into the left corner (cont.), gets the puck from Ott at the bottom of the left faceoff circle, pulls the puck towards the goal line as Scuderi drops to one knee so he gets around Scuderi, then pulls the puck towards the front of the crease where Fleury poke checks it away from him back out to the slot
    S. Ott – knocks Cole off of the puck in the left corner and takes it away from him, then skates it below the goal line and passes the puck up to Reaves at the bottom of the left faceoff circle
    M. Goc – skates into the slot as the puck rolls there from Fleury’s poke check and then he fires it past Fleury through the chaos of Reaves, Scuderi, and Cole in front
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    M. Lapierre – doesn’t fight for positioning with Reaves along the left-side boards in the Penguins zone, so Reaves ends up getting a puck without competition that is rolling up the boards
    I. Cole – has a chance to play the puck in the left corner after Reaves moves it there, but he gets knocked off of it by Ott and loses the puck to him
    R. Scuderi – drops to one knee to defend Reaves even though he’s one-on-one with Reaves, which allows Reaves to get around him to get to the crease and force Fleury into a desperation poke check which sent the puck to the slot

3rd Blues Goal (Steen), Even

  • St. Louis Contributions
    A. Steen – gets a rebound in the left corner of the Penguins zone, holds it along the boards as Lovejoy pins him there, then eventually skates up the boards away from Lovejoy and makes a backhand pass across the ice to Michalek at the right point (cont.), redirects Michalek’s slap-pass past the right pad of Fleury before he can get across the crease
    Z. Michalek – winds up and makes a slap-pass to the inside of the left faceoff circle, where Steen is beating Lovejoy to the inside
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    B. Lovejoy – releases on Steen along the boards, which allows him to get free and pass the puck to Michalek, then loses him to the inside going to the slot so Steen can redirect Michalek’s pass into the net
