    D. Perron – crosses the blue line and passes the puck back to Malkin entering the middle of the neutral zone
    P. Hornqvist – gets the puck from Malkin, carries it to the top of the right faceoff circle, and wrists a shot past Holtby’s blocker as he slides way off of his angle
  • Washington Faults
    J. Carlson – holds his stick with one hand near Malkin and loses control of it as Malkin lifts it so he can’t defend Hornqvist
    B. Holtby – slides too far off of his angle for where Hornqvist is on the ice and takes himself out of position to stop the wrist shit

2nd Penguins Goal (Sutter), Shorthanded

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    B. Sutter – chases down Niskanen’s giveaway just inside the right side of the Capitals zone, takes it to the net on a breakaway, crosses in front of the crease to his backhand, and flicks a backhander past Holtby’s blocker as he’s trying to get across the crease
  • Washington Faults
    M. Niskanen – takes the puck into the left corner of the Penguins zone, then turns quickly and makes a blind pass to no one at the left point so the puck slides all the way to the Capitals zone where Sutter picks it up for a turnover

    J. Chimera – carries the puck into the Penguins zone to the top of the right faceoff circle, pulls up abruptly to avoid a poke check from Martin, then lets the puck slide to Carlson entering the zone
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    K. Letang – has Carlson marked in a 2-on-2 situation as he backs through the neutral zone, but then he backs up too deep into the defensive zone and gives Carlson room to skate into the one-timer from Chimera
    P. Martin – wasn’t aware of Chimera near the boards for the zone entry, then had to over-commit to him, which allowed Chimera to cut to the middle and let the puck slide to Carlson for the one-timer

    B. Orpik – stands in Crosby’s shooting lane and screens Holtby as the puck goes through his legs

  • Washington Contributions
    K. Alzner – hits Comeau in the Capitals zone and forces him to turn the puck over up the boards

Brouwer – picks up the puck and exits the Capitals zone on the right side, then slides the puck to his right for Chimera skating along the boards (cont.), gets behind Scuderi and redirects Chimera’s pass from the slot into Fleury, who makes the initial save, but then Brouwer knocks the rebound into the net
    J. Chimera – carries the puck into the right side of the Penguins zone, cuts across the middle as he enters the zone, and feathers a pass to Brouwer going to the net
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    B. Comeau – turns the puck over along the boards in the Capitals zone, essentially feeding a breakout pass to Brouwer
    E. Malkin – does a fly-by as he skates past Chimera cutting across the defensive zone, actually lifting his stick out of the way of Chimera instead of making a play on the puck or his body
    S. Despres – gets caught flat-footed as Chimera brings the puck to the middle of the ice, so he can’t step up on him and leaves a large gap for Chimera to decide what to do with
    R. Scuderi – loses a step on Brouwer going to the net and can’t tie him up to stop the redirection or the rebound attempt for the goal

4th Penguins Goal (Kunitz), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions

    A. Ovechkin – one-times a shot that deflects off of Fleury’s arm and goes into the net
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    M. Fleury – took the roughing penalty that led to the powerplay
