2/4/15: Pittsburgh Penguins 2 Edmonton Oilers 0

1st Penguins Goal (Malkin), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    P. Hornqvist – gets his right skate on the puck after it comes off of Fasth’s stick, so it kicks down to Arcobello at the goal line
    M. Arcobello – plays the puck above the goal line and then backhands it to Malkin coming in from the inside corner of the right faceoff circle
    E. Malkin – slides the puck into the net as Fasth gets caught up with Aulie
  • Edmonton Faults
    M. Fayne – tries to redirect a Letang dump-in below the goal line to Aulie skating above the right side of the goal line in front of the net, but he redirects it into Fasth instead
    V. Fasth – tries to stop the puck with his stick and glove it, but pushes the puck too far away from his glove
    K. Aulie – skates through Fasth’s stick after Fasth can’t glove the puck, which pulls Fasth away from his angle and off to the side so Malkin can score easily

2nd Penguins Goal (Perron), Even

  • Pittsburgh Contributions
    P. Martin – retrieves the puck in the defensive zone with 9 seconds left in the period and passes the puck up to Perron entering the right side of the Oilers zone
    D. Perron – skates to the top of the right faceoff circle and drops the puck for Crosby before going to the left side of the slot (cont.), knocks the rebound in with his left skate with a nifty stopping (but not a distinct kicking) motion
    S. Crosby – carries the puck down to the outside of the right faceoff circle and then chips it back to Letang at the right point
    K. Letang – one-times the puck on net, where Fasth makes a right pad save that produces a rebound
  • Edmonton Faults
None – everyone was appropriately pressured and it was a bad bounce in the end
