12/4/14: Vancouver Canucks 3 Pittsburgh Penguins 0

1st Canucks Goal (Richardson), Even

  • Vancouver Contributions
    S. Matthias – chases Maatta into the Penguins zone and shoves him as he tries to play the puck behind the net, causing Maatta to barely move it forward so he can intercept it behind the net, then skates behind the net around Ehrhoff, who is trying to cover the passing lane to Richardson, and continues skating towards the corner until the passing lane to Richardson in the slot opens up before passing the puck to him
    B. Richardson – one-times the pass from Matthias short-side on Greiss as he’s coming off of the post with the pass from behind the goal line
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    O. Maatta – chases down a puck in the right corner of the Penguins zone and tries to one-arm it around the boards behind the net to Ehrhoff, but doesn’t get much on it as he’s shoved by Matthias and ends up turning it over to him behind the net
    C. Ehrhoff – hesitates between covering the passing lane to Richardson and stick-checking Matthias, which allows Matthias to get an extra step away from him and create an open passing lane to Richardson for the one-timer

2nd Canucks Goal (Matthias), Even

  • Vancouver Contributions
    B. Richardson – follows Despres behind the Penguins net and lifts his stick when he misplays the puck, proceeding to steal it, fall, and pass it to the front of the net for Matthias all in one motion
    S. Matthias – is waiting in front of the left corner of the crease and one-times Richardson’s pass over the right shoulder of Greiss before he has any chance to get in position
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    S. Despres – skates to a loose puck behind the Penguins net and misplays it along the boards, which gives Richardson enough time to catch up to him and steal the puck from him behind the net

3rd Canucks Goal (Richardson), Shorthanded

  • Vancouver Contributions
    J. Hansen – pressures Greiss with the puck being the Penguins net and forces him into making a bad play with it into the no-play zone, which allows him to steal the puck and then pass it towards the front of the net for Richardson
    B. Richardson – taps Hansen’s pass into an empty net with Greiss out of it
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    T. Greiss – stops the puck behind the Penguins net, then tries to keep the puck away from Hansen on the forecheck, but plays the puck out of the trapezoid so he can’t touch it for a turnover to Hansen (and he loses his stick when Hansen slashes it as well, but he wasn’t doing anything with it at that point anyways)
