1st Rangers Goal (Zuccarello), Even

  • NY Rangers Contributions
    D. Stepan – wins a faceoff in the right circle of the Penguins zone to his back right to Zuccarello
    M. Zuccarello – pulls the puck back behind Stepan and takes a quick wrister that beats Fleury over his left shoulder through a screen
    C. Kreider – goes straight to the net and partially screens Fleury along with Ehrhoff as Zuccarello’s shot goes through unseen
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    R. Bortuzzo – can’t reach Zuccarello off of the faceoff and doesn’t even reach his stick out to try and prevent the shot off of the faceoff
    C. Ehrhoff – screens Fleury in front of the crease so he never sees the shot fly past his shoulder

2nd Rangers Goal (St. Louis), Even

  • NY Rangers Contributions
    M. Staal – takes a one-timer off of a turnover at the left point and creates a loose rebound in front of the net as Bortuzzo blocks the shot
    R. Nash – picks up the puck off of Bortuzzo’s leg as Bortuzzo slides away from the net, then passes it across the front of the crease to St. Louis
    M. St. Louis – taps the puck in past Fleury before he has any chance to go from post-to-post
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    C. Ehrhoff – throws a blind clearing pass from behind the Penguins net up the left-side boards to Staal at the left point for a turnover, then takes a wide path along the boards as the turnover occurs, which allows St. Louis to skate away to the front of the net by himself
    R. Bortuzzo – dives in front of Fleury to block Staal’s shot and effectively takes himself out of the play as the puck is still in front of the crease and he slides further away

3rd Rangers Goal (Hayes), Even

  • NY Rangers Contributions
    L. Stempniak – stops Bortuzzo’s clearing attempt along the boards near the right faceoff circle and passes the puck to Hayes just below the right faceoff dot
    K. Hayes – turns away from the net and loses control of the puck, but it bounces off of Spaling’s skate to Klein at the middle of the blue line
    K. Klein – one-times the puck past Fleury’s blocker-side as he’s out of position for the shot
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    R. Bortuzzo – tries to move the puck high along the glass from the right corner of the defensive zone, but ends up turning it over to Stempniak at the outside of the right faceoff circle, then partially screens Fleury and doesn’t let him know where the puck is as it moves from Hayes to Spaling to Klein
    N. Spaling – kicks the loose puck from Hayes directly to Klein at the middle of the blue line
    M. Fleury – completely loses track of the puck when Hayes has it and doesn’t track it going off of Spaling or to Klein until the shot is coming and it’s too late to get into position for a save

4th Rangers Goal (Brassard), Powerplay

  • NY Rangers Contributions
    R. Nash – swings at a puck in midair behind the Penguins net after Martin broke up a pass and knocks it along the boards to Brassard next to the left faceoff circle
    D. Brassard – holds the puck patiently, skates it to the left faceoff dot, and takes a wrister that beats Fleury over his left shoulder
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    S. Downie – in the penalty box for roughing
    M. Fleury – stays too deep in his net and gives Brassard the top corner over his glove to work with, which Brassard takes advantage of with a strong wrist shot

5th Rangers Goal (Nash), Shorthanded

  • NY Rangers Contributions
    M. Staal – fights through a check from Kunitz in his own zone to clear the puck down to the Penguins zone to the left of the net behind the goal line
    D. Stepan – wins a race against Malkin to get to the loose puck below the goal line, then turns and centers the puck to the front of the crease for Nash skating through the slot
    R. Nash – immediately backhands the puck past/under Fleury’s left pad into the net
  • Pittsburgh Faults
    E. Malkin – loses the race to the puck to Stepan and then can’t stop him from passing the puck to Nash in front
    S. Crosby – glides the entire way back into the defensive zone from center ice as Nash skates past him at center and to the front of the net by himself
