10/16/14: Montreal Canadiens 6 Boston Bruins 4

1st Bruins Goal (Chara), Powerplay

  • Boston Contributions
    T. Krug – picks up a loose puck in Montreal’s zone above the right faceoff circle after a shot rebounded off the post, then skates it to the top of the zone and makes a pass to Lucic along the right half-boards
    M. Lucic – passes the puck to Krejci at the right point
    D. Krecji – one-times Lucic’s pass to the net
    Z. Chara – deflects Krejci’s shot at the top of the crease past Price’s left arm
  • Montreal Faults
    C. Price – took a delay of game penalty

1st Canadiens Goal (Pacioretty), Powerplay

  • Montreal Contributions
    A. Markov – picks up a loose puck in the defensive zone passes it across the ice to Gallagher just inside Montreal’s blue line
    B. Gallagher – makes a one-touch pass to Desharnais streaking into the middle of the neutral zone
    D. Desharnais – takes the pass at center ice, splits the Bruins defense as the blue line, skates in towards Price on breakaway, falls to his back, and still gets a shot off that Rask stops with a rebound
    M. Pacioretty – knocks the rebound in past Rask’s right pad
  • Boston Faults
    D. Seidenberg – in the penalty box for holding the stick
    A. McQuaid – loses positioning on Desharnais on the zone entry and can’t keep up with him, allowing a breakaway
    Z. Chara – can’t shift into a good defensive position to cover Desharnais for McQuaid, then doesn’t tie up/cover Pacioretty going to the net for the rebound and goal

2nd Canadiens Goal (Gallagher), Even

  • Montreal Contributions
    M. Pacioretty – picks up a loose puck at the right half-boards in the Bruins zone that had been blocked over there, then quickly shoots it towards the net
    D. Desharnais – tips the puck in front of Rask and knocks it down through his five-hole
    B. Gallagher – knocks the puck into the net as it drops between Rask’s legs
  • Boston Faults
    D. Hamilton – doesn’t get his stick under Gallagher’s, allowing him to sweep the loose puck into the net

2nd Bruins Goal (Soderberg), Even

  • Boston Contributions
    L. Eriksson – gets a loose puck at the top of the right faceoff circle in Montreal’s zone, carries it down to the goal line, and puts a backhander on net that produces a rebound
    C. Kelly – skates to the rebound in the slot and one-times it back at the net, where it’s blocked
    C. Soderberg – tries to shot the blocked shot in the slot, gets his stick lifted, and then takes another shot attempt which goes past Price’s glove
  • Montreal Faults
    P. Subban – drops to the ground behind Emelin to block Kelly’s shot, which leaves him out of position to defend Soderberg on the rebound or play the puck while he’s lying down in front of Price

3rd Bruins Goal (Eriksson), Even

  • Boston Contributions
    L. Eriksson – takes away Tinordi’s clearing attempt in the right corner of the Canadiens zone, skates the puck up the boards to the hash marks, and then passes it to Kelly at the right point (cont.), redirects Krug’s pass with some help from Plekanec’s skate past Price’s blocker before he has a chance to react
    C. Kelly – quickly passes the puck over to Krug above the left faceoff circle
    T. Krug – fakes a shot to get Weaver to go down, skates towards the faceoff dot, and then centers the puck to the top of the crease for Eriksson
  • Montreal Faults
    J. Tinordi – tries to clear a puck out of the right corner of Montreal’s zone up the boards, but has it blocked off and taken by Eriksson
    T. Plekanec – doesn’t tie up Eriksson on the crease and isn’t even facing the puck so he isn’t aware that a pass is coming as it hits his skate and Eriksson’s stick on the way into the net

3rd Canadiens Goal (Sekac), Even

  • Montreal Contributions
    R. Bourque – picks up his own rebound off of Rask and skates it behind the net to the right corner of the Bruins zone before passing it to the right point for Weaver (cont.), deflects Tinordi’s shot to the net, creating a rebound off of Rask that squirts out to the right side of the crease
    M. Weaver – moves the puck to Tinordi at the left point
    J. Tinordi – shoots a low wrister to the net from the left point that gets deflected in front
    J. Sekac – settles the puck down quickly and throws it back on net while Rask is still down
  • Boston Faults
    G. Campbell – loses track of Sekac moving to the backside of the crease when he commits to trying to block Tinordi’s shot in the slot

4th Canadiens Goal (Parenteau), Even

  • Montreal Contributions
    A. Emelin – picks up a loose puck at the left point of the Bruins zone after a pass was blocked back to him, then throws it down around the boards
    T. Plekanec – gets the puck next to the right faceoff circle after it comes around the boards, then centers it to the high slot for Parenteau
    P. Parenteau – takes a one-time from the high slot that beats Rask’s blocker
  • Boston Faults
    D. Krejci – moves away from Parenteau to pressure Plekanec along the boards and doesn’t stay in the passing lane in between the two players

5th Canadiens Goal (Gallagher), Even

  • Montreal Contributions
    D. Desharnais – wins a faceoff in the left circle of the Bruins zone back to Emelin at the left point
    A. Emelin – passes the puck to Pacioretty in the high slot
    M. Pacioretty – attempts to take a one-time from the high slot, but partially fans on the puck and lifts it in the air
    B. Gallagher – gets hit with Pacioretty’s errant shot in the chest, causing it to drop down to the ice and bounce through Rask’s legs
  • Boston Faults
    P. Bergeron – stays engaged with Desharnais after the faceoff for too long, keeping him from defending Pacioretty in open space in the high slot

4th Bruins Goal (Gagne), Even

  • Boston Contributions
    T. Krug – starts with the puck in the Bruins zone and passes it up to Krejci exiting the defensive zone
    D. Krejci – carries the puck through the neutral zone and then passes it ahead to Lucic at the top of the right faceoff circle in Montreal’s zone
    M. Lucic – bursts past Emelin in Montreal’s zone to get the pass from Krejci with an open lane to the net, then puts a wrist shot on Price that sneaks under his right pad into the crease, but not into the net
    S. Gagne – crashes the left side of the net and has the puck hit off of his right skate on its way into the net
  • Montreal Faults
    A. Emelin – gets caught squaring up to Krejci on the zone entry and isn’t able to block his pass or adjust to Lucic breaking through the middle of the zone with an open lane to the net
    P. Subban – tries to play the loose puck behind Price back into Price, but causes it to go off of his stick, to Gagne’s skate, and also doesn’t box out Gagne from the loose puck
    C. Price – lets Lucic’s shot sneak under his right pad into the crease and then can’t cover it as it caroms off of his stick, Gagne’s skate, and into the net

6th Canadiens Goal (Parenteau), Powerplay

  • Montreal Contributions
    A. Galchenyuk – knocks the puck away from Krug at the right point of the Canadiens zone into the neutral zone for Parenteau
    P. Parenteau – skates down the left boards with the puck and then backhands it into an empty net
  • Boston Faults
    M. Lucic – in the penalty box for boarding
    T. Krug – can’t keep the puck in at the right point and loses it to Galchenyuk
