10/15/14: Arizona Coyotes 7 Edmonton Oilers 4

1st Oilers Goal (Hall), Even

  • Edmonton Contributions
    N. Nikitin – gets Ekman-Larsson’s clear up the boards and shoots it towards the net, but it’s blocked by Michalek to Ekman-Larsson, who redirects it to Eberle
    J. Eberle – gets the redirect at the bottom of the right faceoff circle and centers it to the slot for Hall
    T. Hall – quickly shoots the puck through Smith’s five-hole
  • Arizona Faults
    O. Ekman-Larsson – gets the puck behind his net and wraps it up the boards right to Nikitin for a turnover (cont.), then redirects the puck off of Michalek’s block directly to Eberle
    Z. Michalek – steps in front of Hall to block Nikitin’s shot, successfully blocks the shot, but then isn’t in position to stop Hall when the puck still gets to him

1st Coyotes Goal (Boedker), Powerplay

  • Arizona Contributions
    M. Smith – leaves his net to get a puck above the goal line to the right of the net and passes it behind the net to Yandle in the left corner
    K. Yandle – skates a few strides up the ice and then passes the puck up to Boedker at the Oilers blue line
    M. Boedker – enters the left side of the Oilers zone with a breakaway, moves towards the slot, pulls the puck to his backhand, and flicks it over the left pad of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    N. Nikitin – in the penalty box for hooking
    J. Petry – loses track of Boedker behind him on the blue line and allows the breakaway goal

2nd Coyotes Goal (Chipchura), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    B. McMillan – gets to a loose puck below the goal line in the Oilers zone after Scrivens misses it, then passes it behind the net for Vitale
    J. Vitale – passes the puck to the slot for Chipchura as Scrivens and Draisaitl get caught on each other when Scrivens gets back to the crease
    K. Chipchura – one-times the puck past the glove of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    B. Scrivens – goes behind the net to stop a puck and misses it, then gets tangled up with Draisaitl as he tries to get back to the crease
    L. Draisaitl – gets tied up with Scrivens in the crease and isn’t paying attention to Chipchura sneaking into the slot

2nd Oilers Goal (Fayne), Even

  • Edmonton Contributions
    B. Pouliot – gets a puck in his defensive zone coming around the boards and taps it up the boards for Draisaitl exiting the zone
    L. Draisaitl – carries the puck to center, chips it to the left over Stone’s stick to enter the Coyotes zone, then takes a quick shot that goes wide of the net, bounces off the back boards, and bounces out to the right of the net
    M. Fayne – gets to the puck as it rebounds off the back boards and shoots it past Smith before he can get from post-to-post
  • Arizona Faults
    None – the bounce was perfect for Fayne and the play couldn’t have been defended

3rd Coyotes Goal (Murphy), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    K. Yandle – gets to a loose puck at the Coyotes blue line and swats it up the right boards to Gagner in the neutral zone
    S. Gagner – gets the puck along the boards just past center ice and drops it for Boedker crossing the red line
    M. Boedker – passes the puck to the right to Doan as they enter the Oilers zone
    S. Doan – slows down high in the zone and then passes the puck to Murphy at the left point
    C. Murphy – carries the puck to the top of the left faceoff circle and then shoots a wrister that beats the glove of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    T. Hall – over-pursues Gagner along the boards, which gives the Coyotes an odd-man break entering the Oilers zone
    J. Eberle – makes a bad change as the Coyotes are turning the puck towards the Oilers zone, which gives Joensuu no chance at getting back into the play to cover Murphy

4th Coyotes Goal (Klinkhammer), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    M. Hanzal – gets to a rebound in the left corner of the Oilers zone and passes it behind the net for Erat
    M. Erat – skates towards the right corner and passes the puck to Klinkhammer skating into the slot
    R. Klinkhammer – one-times the puck past the blocker of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    D. Perron – was covering Klinkhammer in the slot and then abandoned him to cover another man near the boards, leaving Klinkhammer open for the pass and goal in front of the net

3rd Oilers Goal (Arcobello), Even

  • Edmonton Contributions
    T. Hall – chips a puck along the boards in the Oilers zone past Michalek pinching in for it, carries it up the left side into the Coyotes zone on a 3-on-1, and passes the puck from the left faceoff dot past an outstretched Ekman-Larsson to Arcobello at the bottom of the right faceoff circle
    M. Arcobello – roofs the puck over Smith as he tries to go post-to-post
  • Arizona Faults
    Z. Michalek – tries to pinch in for a puck along the boards in the Oilers zone but lets Hall get past him with the puck for a 2-on-1 that turns into a 3-on-1

5th Coyotes Goal (Boedker), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    M. Stone – pokes the puck off of the stick of Hendricks at the Coyotes blue line back to Yandle
    K. Yandle – gets the puck and passes it up to Doan at center ice as the Coyotes skate up with a 3-on-2
    S. Doan – carries the puck into the Oilers zone and passes it to Vermette on his right
    A. Vermette – pulls up at the top of the right faceoff circle and passes the puck to Boedker entering the high slot
    M. Boedker – moves the puck to his backhand in the slot and shoots a puck at the chest of Scrivens, who lets the puck fall and sneak through his legs into the net
  • Edmonton Faults
    M. Hendricks – loses the puck at the offensive blue line, sending Arizona the other way
    B. Scrivens – can’t control a shot that hits him in the chest and he lets it roll to the ice, through his legs, and into the net

6th Coyotes Goal (Erat), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    D. Schlemko – keeps Ference’s clearing attempt in at the left point in the Oilers zone, then keeps it from Yakupov trying to exit the zone with the puck and moves it a couple of feet forward to Hanzal
    M. Hanzal – passes the puck to Erat down in the left corner
    M. Erat – skates the puck towards the net and tries to make a centering pass that is blocked by Nurse, then gets the puck back as Scrivens pokes it right to him so he can pull it around to the front of the crease and slide it past the left pad of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    A. Ference – carries a puck through the left corner of the Oilers zone and tries to chip it out of the zone off the boards, but can’t get it past Schlemko at the left point
    N. Yakupov – tries to chip the puck past Schlemko so he can break into the neutral zone with it, but misses the puck and leaves the zone, allowing the Coyotes to move into an odd-man situation in the Oilers zone
    B. Scrivens – pokes the loose puck on the crease right back to Erat, which also leaves him leaning to the right as Erat takes the puck across the crease to his left to score

4th Oilers Goal (Hall), Even

  • Edmonton Contributions
    J. Eberle – gets his blade on Ekman-Larsson’s attempted pass in front of the Coyotes net and deflects the puck to the slot
    T. Hall – steps into the slot and immediately backhands the puck through Smith’s five-hole
  • Arizona Faults
    O. Ekman-Larsson – tries to pass the puck in front of his own net from below the goal line and has it tipped/deflected by Eberle, so the puck goes directly to Hall in the slot

7th Coyotes Goal (Boedker), Even

  • Arizona Contributions
    M. Boedker – steals the puck from Schultz at center ice and carries it into the Oilers zone on a breakaway, sliding the puck into an empty net
  • Edmonton Faults
    J. Schultz – skates the puck up to center ice and tries to pass it to the blue line, but gives it away to Boedker, who has a long breakaway down on an empty net
