10/14/14: Los Angeles Kings 6 Edmonton Oilers 1

1st Kings Goal (Carter), Even

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    T. Pearson – follows Yakupov behind the Oilers net with the puck, lifts his stick and steals the puck, carries it to the right-side boards, then chips it back below the goal line for Toffoli
    T. Toffoli – holds the puck for a second as Carter skates in through the right faceoff circle, then passes it to him
    J. Carter – one-times the puck past Fasth’s right pad
  • Edmonton Faults
    N. Yakupov – loses the puck behind the Oilers net to Pearson
    J. Schultz – covers an empty area in front of the net instead of stepping towards Toffoli or blocking the passing lane between Toffoli and Carter
    B. Pouliot – doesn’t stay with Carter skating deeper into the zone and can’t prevent him from getting the shot off

2nd Kings Goal (Williams), Even

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    A. Martinez – gets a loose puck behind the Kings net and passes it to Richards along the boards
    M. Richards – redirects the puck to Greene in the middle of the defensive zone
    M. Greene – backhands the puck up to Kopitar at center ice
    A. Kopitar – protects the puck in his skates as Joensuu steps up on him, skates past Joensuu down the left side boards on a 2-on-1 with Williams on his right, then passes to Williams above the right faceoff circle as they get into the zone
    J. Williams – beats Fasth with a wrist shot past his blocker as he gets to the right faceoff dot
  • Edmonton Faults
    J. Joensuu – steps up unsuccessfully on Kopitar at center ice, allowing a 2-on-1 into the Oilers zone

3rd Kings Goal (Toffoli), Shorthanded

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    S. Voynov – gets a loose puck behind the Kings net and pushes it up to Toffoli along the right boards in the neutral zone
    T. Toffoli – enters the right side of the Oilers zone, slows down and moves laterally to the left as Hunt tries to step up on him, continues skating backwards to the left faceoff dot with the puck in shooting position as Hunt loses positioning, and finally fires a wrist shot over Fasth’s right shoulder
  • Edmonton Faults
    B. Hunt – tries to step up on Toffoli as he enters the zone, but loses positioning as Toffoli moves laterally and can’t slow him down or prevent the shot

4th Kings Goal (Brown), Even

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    J. Stoll – forces a turnover in the Oilers zone as he knocks Hall down against the right-side boards
    D. King – picks up the loose puck near the boards and carries it down to the goal line to the right of the net, then floats the puck in front for Brown
    D. Brown – taps King’s pass out of the air past the right pad of Scrivens
  • Edmonton Faults
    T. Hall – tries to pull up along the boards in the defensive zone and loses the puck as Stoll knocks him over
    T. Purcell – gets his stick in between Brown’s legs instead of tying up Brown’s stick, allowing him to tap the puck in

5th Kings Goal (Pearson), Even

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    T. Pearson – steals the puck from Draisaitl behind the Oilers net with a stick lift and pushes the puck to the bottom of the right faceoff circle (cont.), gets the puck after Carter stops it and turns to fire a quick wrist shot over the left shoulder of Scrivens
    J. Carter – gets his stick on the puck to stop it and let it sit at the bottom of the circle
  • Edmonton Faults
    L. Draisaitl – loses the puck behind the Oilers net as Pearson lifts his stick and steals it

6th Kings Goal (Pearson), Powerplay

  • Los Angeles Contributions
    M. Richards – gets a loose puck in the right corner of the Oilers zone in the middle of a four-player battle for it and pushes the puck to Martinez at the right point
    A. Martinez – moves to the middle of the ice and takes a slapshot that is stopped by Scrivens, but he doesn’t know where the puck is, so he stands up and leaves a rebound in the crease at this feet
    T. Pearson – taps the loose puck in the crease into the net
  • Edmonton Faults
    M. Arcobello – in the penalty box for high-sticking
    B. Scrivens – makes the initial save with the puck falling below him, then stands up since he doesn’t know where the puck is, allowing Pearson to tap it in easily

1st Oilers Goal (Hendricks), Even

  • Edmonton Contributions
    M. Hendricks – picks up a loose puck after a tied-up faceoff in the right circle of the Kings zone, carries the puck to the bottom of the right faceoff circle, and takes a bad angle shot that sneaks through Quick’s five-hole into the net
  • Los Angeles Faults
    J. Quick – leaves a small gap open between his pads and doesn’t get his stick flat in front of it on a bad angle shot from Hendricks
