10/13/14: Tampa Bay Lightning 7 Montreal Canadiens 1

1st Lightning Goal (Hedman), Even

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    J. Brown – gets a loose puck near the right faceoff circle in the Canadiens zone and puts a shot on net
    V. Namestnikov – stops the shot as he’s trying to redirect it, which leaves it sitting in the crease as several players battle for it and Weaver sits over it
    N. Kucherov – keeps digging at Weaver’s legs until he pulls Weaver’s legs out and the puck squirts loose to the slot
    V. Hedman – skates into the slot and pulls the puck away from Weaver’s skate, then backhands the puck over Price’s shoulder
  • Montreal Faults
    None – everyone was scrambling for a loose puck that most had no chance to see

2nd Lightning Goal (Stamkos), Powerplay

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    V. Filppula – gets a loose puck that rolls up to the left point after a missed shot, skates it down to the left goal line, and passes it to Callahan next to the net (cont.), gets the puck from Callahan and moves it to the left point for Hedman
    R. Callahan – returns the pass back to Filppula in the corner (cont.), turns next to the net and tries to put a quick shot on net that is blocked by Markov
    V. Hedman – moves towards the middle of the blue line and then passes the puck to Stamkos just outside of the left faceoff dot
    S. Stamkos – quickly passes the puck down to Callahan next to the net (cont.), skates in and shoots the loose puck after Markov’s block past Price’s shoulder
  • Montreal Faults
    N. Beaulieu – in the penalty box for interference

1st Canadiens Goal (Gallagher), Even

  • Montreal Contributions
    B. Gallagher – wins a faceoff in the right circle of the Lightning zone (cont.), skates through the slot and redirects Tinordi’s pass past Bishop’s glove
    M. Pacioretty – gets to the puck behind Gallagher and moves it to the right point for Weaver
    M. Weaver – passes the puck to the left point for Tinordi
    J. Tinordi – makes a hard pass to the slot for Gallagher
  • Tampa Bay Faults
    V. Namestikov – follows Gallagher into the slot, but doesn’t tie up his stick or get positioning on him, allowing Gallagher to redirect the puck in

3rd Lightning Goal (Stamkos), Even

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    V. Hedman – gets the puck behind his own net, looks up, and making a long pass to Stamkos at the Canadiens blue line
    S. Stamkos – takes the pass behind the defense at the blue line, entering the zone for a breakaway on Price, then moves the puck to his backhand, back to his forehand, and slides the puck through Price’s five-hole
  • Montreal Faults
    A. Markov – lets Stamkos get behind him at the Canadiens blue line and can’t break up the pass, giving Stamkos a breakaway

4th Lightning Goal (Stamkos), Powerplay

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    R. Callahan – picks up a loose puck in the right corner of the Canadiens zone and throws it behind the net around the boards to Filppula at the left point (cont.), then screens Price so he doesn’t even see the shot by Stamkos coming in
    V. Filppula – skates the puck down to the left corner and then passes it back to Hedman, now at the left point
    V. Hedman – passes the puck to Stamkos above the right faceoff circle
    S. Stamkos – takes a slapshot that goes through the legs of Callahan, so Price never sees it as it goes under his right pad
  • Montreal Faults
    P. Subban – in the penalty box for interference

5th Lightning Goal (Callahan), Even

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    M. Carle – breaks up a pass in the defensive zone, recovers the puck, and passes it up the left side boards to Callahan at center ice
    R. Callahan – carries the puck into the Canadiens zone, down the left side boards, fakes a cut to the middle, and then cuts back to the outside, which catches Subban flat-footed, then skates to the bottom of the left circle behind Subban, cuts in front of the crease, and puts the puck past Tokarski’s left pad as he tries to get across
  • Montreal Faults
    P. Subban – bites on Callahan’s fake to the inside and then loses a step on him, allowing Callahan to get to the front of the net unimpeded

6th Lightning Goal (Palat), Even

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    J. Garrison – has the puck in his own zone and passes it up to Stralman entering the right side of the Canadiens zone
    A. Stralman – flicks the puck to the boards behind the net, where it bounces back to the side of the net and in front of the goal line unexpectedly
    B. Boyle – is at the crease when the puck comes above the goal line and backhands the puck on Tokarski, creating a rebound
    O. Palat – gets to the top of the crease just in time to flick the rebound past Tokarski’s blocker
  • Montreal Faults
    M. Weaver – stopped on the crease when Boyle got the puck, but then didn’t play the rebound in front of him before Palat got to the crease and shot it in

7th Lightning Goal (Namestnikov), Even

  • Tampa Bay Contributions
    N. Kucherov – gets a loose puck to the right of the Canadiens net from a wide shot, takes it below the goal line, and then passes it back to the slot for Namestikov
    V. Namestnikov – quickly wrists the puck past Tokarski’s glove
  • Montreal Faults
    P. Subban – is standing in the slot and doesn’t cover the pass or Namestikov skating through for the one-timer
