10/11/14: St. Louis Blues 4 Calgary Flames 1

1st Blues Goal (Lindstrom), Even

  • St. Louis Contributions
    A. Steen – picks up the puck in the offensive zone along the left side boards after Engelland and Setoguchi turn it over, then cuts to the middle with a 3-on-1 and passes the puck to Stastny on the inside edge of the right faceoff circle
    P. Stastny – holds the puck for a second as Hiller square up to him and then passes the puck across the slot to Lindstrom on the left side
    J. Lindstrom – taps the puck in past Hiller’s left pad
  • Calgary Faults
    D. Setoguchi – chases a puck from the neutral zone to his defensive blue line and tries to play it to Engelland a foot away, who isn’t ready for the puck and it becomes a turnover
    D. Engelland – closes off Setoguchi’s path with the puck along the boards and then can’t play the pass, turning it over

2nd Blues Goal (Backes), Powerplay

  • St. Louis Contributions
    A. Steen – picks up the puck along the boards in the defensive zone and passes it to Stastny streaking up the right side of the neutral zone
    P. Stastny – carries the puck into the offensive zone, pulls up above the right faceoff circle, and passes the puck to Shattenkirk at the right point
    K. Shattenkirk – pulls the puck towards the middle of the blue line and takes a wrist shot
    D. Backes – deflects Shattenkirk’s shot with the shaft of his stick past Hiller’s right arm
  • Calgary Faults
    M. Stajan – in the penalty box for tripping

3rd Blues Goal (Pietrangelo), Powerplay

  • St. Louis Contributions
    V. Tarasenko – pries a puck loose behind the net and knocks it to Pietrangelo in the right corner (cont.), gets the puck back and passes it to the right point for Shattenkirk
    A. Pietrangelo – makes a one-touch pass back to Tarasenko (cont.), gets the puck from Shattenkirk and passes it back to him (cont.), skates in after Shattenkirk’s shot and shoots the bounce off of the backboards past Hiller’s blocker before he can move over
    K. Shattenkirk – makes a one-touch pass to the left faceoff circle for Stastny (cont.), gets the puck from Stastny and moves it to the right point for Pietrangelo (cont.), one-times Pietrangelo’s pass but misses the net, so the puck hits the backboards to the left side of the net and bounces out to the right side of the net
    P. Stastny – holds the puck and then moves it back to Shattenkirk, now at the left point
  • Calgary Faults
    D. Engelland – in the penalty box for high-sticking

4th Blues Goal (Tarasenko), Even

  • St. Louis Contributions
    J. Schwartz – gets to a loose puck behind the net and pushes it towards the crease, where it hits Monahan’s skate and bounces into the slot
    V. Tarasenko – steps to the loose puck in the slot and takes a slapshot that goes past Hiller’s blocker
  • Calgary Faults
    S. Monahan – stands on the crease in front of Hiller, where he deflects the puck to Tarasenko in the slot and is also playing too deep to cover Tarasenko as he steps into a slapshot

1st Flames Goal (Glencross), Powerplay

  • Calgary Contributions
    M. Backlund – lifts Pietrangelo’s stick behind the Blues net and steals the puck, passing it around the boards to Brodie at the right point
    T. Brodie – moves the puck to Giordano at the left point
    M. Giordano – takes a quick wrist shot towards the net
    C. Glencross – deflects Giordano’s shot out of the air and puts it on the ice through Elliott’s five-hole
  • St. Louis Faults
    K. Shattenkirk – in the penalty box for hooking
    A. Pietrangelo – loses the puck to Backlund on a stick lift behind the net
