1st Islanders Goal (Boychuk), Powerplay

  • New York Islanders Contributions
    K. Okposo – wins a faceoff in the offensive zone to the right to Tavares (cont.), gets the puck from Boychuk and passes it down to the right corner for Tavares (cont.), gets the puck back from Tavares, fakes a one-timer, then passes it to the top of the left circle for Boychuk
    J. Tavares – moves the puck back to Boychuk at the right point (cont.), gets the puck from Okposo and then passes it back to him
    J. Boychuk – skates to the middle of the blue line and then passes the puck to the right for Okposo (cont.), one-times Okposo’s pass through Ward’s five-hole
  • Carolina Faults
    B. Malone – in the penalty box for hooking
    J. Harrison – in the penalty box for high-sticking

2nd Islanders Goal (Nelson), Even

  • New York Islanders Contributions
    J. Tavares – gets a loose puck in the neutral zone and throws it to the right side of the offensive zone for Nelson (cont.), gets the puck from Boychuk and passes it to Nelson entering the slot
    B. Nelson – gets the puck on the outside of the right faceoff circle in Carolina’s zone, then pulls up and passes the puck back to Hamonic at the right point (cont.), gets the puck from Tavares and quickly takes a shot that beats Ward over his glove
    T. Hamonic – moves the puck to the left point for Boychuk
    J. Boychuk – passes the puck down to Tavares in the left corner of the zone
    K. Okposo – draws the attention of both defenders as he goes to the net, opening a passing lane between Tavares and Nelson
  • Carolina Faults
    A. Sekera – is just exiting the penalty box and can’t get into the play before the goal is scored

3rd Islanders Goal (Nelson), Powerplay

  • New York Islanders Contributions
    J. Boychuk – retrieves the puck from behind the Islanders net and carries it quickly into the neutral zone to back off the Hurricanes, then drops the puck to Okposo in the defensive zone (cont.), gets the puck from Tavares, fakes a shot, then gives it back to Tavares (cont.), gets the puck from Tavares again, skates towards the middle of the ice, and send a slapshot towards the net
    K. Okposo – carries the puck into the neutral zone and passes it to Nielsen on his left
    F. Nielsen – brings the puck into the offensive zone and drops it off at the left point for Tavares
    J. Tavares – takes the puck half way down the boards and then drops it back to Boychuk at the left point (cont.), gets the puck from Boychuk and then passes it back to him again
    B. Nelson – deflects Boychuk’s shot with his right knee past Ward’s glove
  • Carolina Faults
    T. Gleason – in the penalty box for roughing

1st Hurricanes Goal (Gerbe), Powerplay

  • Carolina Contributions
    A. Sekera – blocks the clearing attempt by Cizikas in the neutral zone, sending the puck up in the air towards Gerbe (cont.), gets the puck from Rask and moves it to the right point for Faulk
    N. Gerbe – picks up the loose puck and carries it into the Islanders zone, then takes it to the right corner and pushes it behind the net, from where he pokes it to the left corner for Rask (cont.), deflects Faulk’s shot so it hits off of Halak, goes over him, and trickles into the net
    V. Rask – gets the puck at the left corner and holds it as everyone sets up, then passes it back to the left point for Sekera
    J. Faulk – takes a slapshot from the right point
  • New York Islanders Faults
    J. Tavares – in the penalty box for roughing
    C. Cizikas – fails to clear the puck through the neutral zone, hitting Sekera with it instead and sending the Hurricanes back in the zone

4th Islanders Goal (Grabovski), Even

  • New York Islanders Contributions
    R. Strome – steals a puck from Harrison in the right corner of the Hurricanes zone, then feeds it out to Grabovski above the goal line on the inside corner of the right faceoff circle
    M. Grabovski – takes the pass and wrists the puck past Ward’s blocker
  • Carolina Faults
    J. Harrison – gets to a puck in the right corner of the Hurricanes zone first, but can’t play it and loses it to Strome

5th Islanders Goal (Hamonic), Even

  • New York Islanders Contributions
    T. Hickey – pinches down the left side boards to intercept Dwyer’s pass and knocks the puck to the left corner
    R. Strome – is in the left corner, gets the puck, and throws it back to Nelson at the left point
    B. Nelson – moves the puck to Hamonic at the right point
    T. Hamonic – skates to the top of the right faceoff circle and fires a wrist shot that just gets past Ward’s blocker
  • Carolina Faults
    P. Dwyer – softly plays the puck around the boards, which ends up on Hickey’s stick as he pinches in

2nd Hurricanes Goal (Terry), Even

  • Carolina Contributions
    P. Brown – gets a rebound to the left of the Islanders net and gives it to Nash behind the net.
    R. Nash – passes the puck to Terry in the right corner (cont.), gets the puck back from Terry and then gives it right back to him
    C. Terry – passes the puck back to Nash behind the net (cont.), gets the puck back from Nash and moves up the right boards with the puck before passing it to Sekera at the middle of the blue line (cont.), one-times Sekera’s shot past Halak’s glove
    A. Sekera – skates around Tavares, who tried to steal the puck/knock him off of it, skates a few strides deeper into the zone, and passes back to Terry above the right faceoff dot
  • New York Islanders Faults
    J. Tavares – got too aggressive on Sekera, losing positioning on him and forcing the rest of the defense to freeze, which gave Sekera plenty of options

3rd Hurricanes Goal (E. Staal), Powerplay

  • Carolina Contributions
    E. Staal – reaches into a group of four players battling for the puck and takes it away into the right corner, then curls up to just below the right faceoff dot and fires a wrist shot that gets over Halak’s left shoulder
  • New York Islanders Faults
    B. Strait – in the penalty box for interference
